MEET BARB
A New Vision of Leadership for the Citizens of Green
Barb’s family has been a part of the Green community for 6 generations. Barb grew up on Homewood Farm, her family’s homestead on Portage Lakes. There she learned the importance of hard work, being a good neighbor and doing the right thing. Barb’s family instilled in her the values of honesty, volunteerism, compassion, and fairness which have sustained her through her education, her career and the creation of her own family.

Barb attended grade school in Green and graduated from St. Vincent - St. Mary High School in 1988, Denison University in 1992, and Northwestern University School of Law in 1996. At law school, Barb was a student attorney in the Children and Family Justice Center, helping parents navigate the courts and social service system. She also clerked in both a large law firm and a small boutique practice in Chicago.
After graduation from law school, Barb chose to leave big city life and return home. Upon her return, she served as a judicial attorney in the Ninth District Court of Appeals and later as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, Civil Division. As an assistant civil prosecutor, Barb learned a great deal about local government as she handled contracts, litigation, employment and other legal issues for Summit County. After she gave birth to her first child, Barb focused on her private law practice, handling primarily real estate matters.

As she raised her family in Green, Barb remained active in the greater Green community. For many years, she has been a member of the Akron Children’s Hospital Women’s Board and the ACH corporation, as well as an in-hospital volunteer. She served several terms on the board of the Junior League of Akron and was awarded the JLA Presidents’ Award for Volunteer Service in 2006. Barb spent many hours volunteering in her children’s schools and with the Green Schools’ PTAs. She has served on the Green Council of PTAs and chaired the Reflections Program for the district PTAs, providing an opportunity for local students to compete in this statewide arts competition.
In 2017 and again in 2021, Barb was elected to represent Ward 1 on Green City Council. She served as Vice President of council in 2019 and President in 2020. Additionally, she has chaired the Finance, Safety and Planning and Economic Development committees. She currently runs a residential real estate business and is in the process of starting a flower farm in Green.

Barb has been married to her husband Craig for 25 years and they have three children: Will, Teddy and Caroline. In her spare time, Barb enjoys gardening, hiking, reading and hanging out with the family’s three crazy dogs.
Barb has called Green home her whole life long. She loves the community and feels privileged to raise her own family here. She understands the old and new issues facing the city and she has the right skills to navigate through divisive issues. With Barb, you get what you see, and transparency is the rule, not the exception.
